Casa Sofia, Sian Ka'an

Casa Sofia is the practical way into Sian Ka’an for a mixed group. Most beachfront bookings fail on the rooming arithmetic; here the five bedrooms mix king, queen and twin configurations, so twelve guests fit whatever combination of couples, children and single travellers the party contains. Nobody draws the short straw.

The villa sits inside the Sian Ka’an biosphere with private sand directly below the pool deck. An infinity pool faces the Caribbean, and a broad terrace splits sun from shade with loungers and a dining table on it. The rooftop balcony takes both ends of the day: coffee at one, stargazing at the other, and skies inside the reserve are dark enough for the second to be worth doing.

Inside, the rooms are open-plan and simply furnished, drawing in the sea breeze and the light. A fully equipped kitchen anchors self-catered stays, with housekeeping and support standard, and air-conditioning and Wi-Fi throughout.

The principal suite has a king bed and its own bathroom; the remaining rooms run a mix of queen and twin beds.
