Villa Dos Jaguares, South Akumal at a glance
On the beach in South Akumal, Villa Dos Jaguares is a five-bedroom house designed by its owner, a Santa Monica architect who spent fifteen years studying Mayan and Olmec sites across Mexico with his wife. It follows the tradition of Frank Lloyd Wright’s Mayan-inspired homes.
Inside are 5,000 square feet of white and silver Durango marble, custom Honduran mahogany, the owners’ photographs of ancient sites, and art deco glass blocks in ocean and sky colours. Upstairs, a hallway of Mayan arches modelled on the Palace at Palenque glows at night.
Good to know: the bedrooms have air conditioning, while the living room and kitchen have ceiling fans only. There is no pool; the sea is right in front. Maid service runs six days a week, and a cook can be arranged at extra cost.

The living room, dining room, an extra bathroom and a fully equipped kitchen with a gas stove are downstairs, around a central courtyard with stylized steps and tropical planting. Ceiling fans throughout, Wi-Fi, a large safe in the master, a lending library, purified water, and all linens and beach towels. Porta crib and high chair on request.
Outdoor Living
Directly on the beach, with a rooftop observation deck, BBQ grill, massage palapa and two kayaks (single and double). The master suite has a private outdoor shower and a large oceanside balcony.

Five bedrooms for up to 12.
Upstairs: master with king bed, oceanside balcony, ocean-view tub and open-air shower; guest room with king bed, garden view, private bath and sunset deck; second guest room with two twins and two futons.
Downstairs: guest room with a double bed, private bath and ocean view, opening onto the beach. A studio suite has a queen bed.
The upstairs bedrooms are reached by stairs.
